HIBERNATE THE MIND
Why we should be hibernating instead of vacationing.
As adults we work our day jobs, our side hustles, maintain our homes and / or our businesses, day in and day out. If we are “fortunate”, we are able to take some time off to have a bit of a vacation. But when we vacation, why are we more tired after the vacation then before it started? The break we are pretending to give ourselves is not a break at all because what we need to rest is our mind.
Meditating ten minutes a day is said to be key in benefiting our lives greatly. But is that really enough. As nature shows us, everything in nature has a rest period. Some plants and trees lose their leaves whiles others that are evergreen or are located in year round warm weather will have a time when they just stop growing. Take a look at our house plants. If we pay attention, we will observe that there is always a time when our plants stop growing. We notice this when we see that there are no new leaflets or buds. Everything must have a period of hibernation to continue to grow efficiently.
We are no different than nature, though most of us never allow for a time to hibernate. Even when we do take a break, our minds are still overloaded. This over working of the mind is what causes us to be accessible to sickness and disease. Our brain knows that it needs to rest and our body knows that the only way we will rest the mind is if we are unable to do otherwise. But this is a miserable way to rest. Another issue with this is that when we are sick we are programmed to take medication to shorten the rest period to “feel better” faster. However, we have learned that the medicine we buy to treat the illness only numbs the part of the brain that tells us that there is something wrong. Is this how we are choosing to live?
Creating intention:
By choosing to hibernate, we need to be able to turn off our brain to everything that is not necessary. Let’s choose to turn off the tv, the smart part of our phones, our past, and our future. Instead of booking a place to get away which takes time, energy, anxiety, and expectations, plan to get away mentally. This may be difficult at first and one may experience mental withdraw such as being overly anxious. But after this subsides, rest the body and sleep the mind. Understand that this time we are taking is necessary for our growth, our success, and our health. Often times the reason why we do not take a time off is because we feel as though we do not have the time to be off or cannot afford it. However, when we get sick there is nothing we can do but rest even if just for a day. And for those of us that have children or are caregivers to adults, include them into this practice. Let them know exactly what you are doing and why. It is important that we start this early for our children so that the deprogramming process is not as intense as it is for us adults. It was a gradual process for us to get to this overstimulation so it will be a gradual process to reverse it. Let’s give ourselves the love we need to rest the most powerful part of us. Our mind is our power house. It is the source behind all creations. Give it the time to operate at its highest frequency of love and balance.
